Golden Hour

I went out early this morning, before sunrise, in order to take some captures during that time known in the photography world as “The Golden Hour”. In photography, the golden hour (also known as magic hour) is the first and last hour of sunlight during the day when a specific photographic effect is achieved with the quality of the light during these hours.

Typically, lighting will be softer and warmer in hue, and shadows will be quite pronounced as a result of the sun being so close to the horizon. The sunlight is traveling through more of the atmosphere and striking objects at an angle, instead of straight down.

I ended up at the Pillar Point Marina (I think that’s what it’s called) and took a few shots during that magic hour of the day. Pillar Point is near Half Moon Bay and the marina includes not only docked boats, but a lot of nice little shops and restaurants. If you’re ever in the area stop by and have some clam chowder!
