Ocean Beach

I recently visited Ocean Beach in San Francisco in order to get some sunset shots. I arrived a little late to catch the full sunset, but that was ok, because I discovered something else about this awesome place; it comes alive at night.

As soon as I pull into the parking lot I noticed quite a bit of pedestrian traffic, people walking about, taking pictures, simply walking the beach, I even spied one young lady twirling a baton. After parking the car and getting out, I heard loud music, I was immediately turned off by it as I thought it was some you attention needing gangster type playing his music way to loud from his car. However, to my surprise, there was an actual band playing on the sidewalk near the beach. What an awesome site to see and hear on a beach at night.

As I got closer to the beach I began to see even more people mulling about and bonfires on the beach itself with crowds of people enjoying themselves. With the sun set and the sky a glow in orange, I began to think to myself, what a wonderful atmosphere to be in on Saturday night. It felt comfortable, inviting and almost surreal. I even ran into an old co-worker friend who invited me down to his group for a couple of cold ones.

Eh, the reason I went there in the first place, pictures. I got a couple of good shots, but overall not a great night for me in the picture taking area. Well, maybe next time.
