Maddy’s images are simply magical and emotionally fresh. She hails from Romania and has been seriously taking pictures for about a year and a half. When I first came across her images (this was the first one I saw) I was immediately struck by the shear beauty of them. Her wonderful ability to compose an image, her use of color and her marvelous eye for the right shot makes me keep going back to her Flickr Stream to see more. From her fascinating portraits to gorgeous mountain vista’s, her images will strike a cord with you as they have me, I’m sure.
I was recently able to ask Maddy some questions about her photography and what follows are her responses.
Q: How did you get started with Photography?
A: In my crazy teenage time, I found myself taking one of those modeling classes, but instead of spending time with the girls, make up and clothes, I used to spend all of my time with the photographer, because he was so much more interesting. That is when I tried to get my first camera. My parents thought it was a bad investment, so I never did get a chance to have one until many years later.
Q: How long have you been involved in photography?
A: Maybe 3 years since I started learning about it and almost one year and a half since I have actually begun taking photos.
Q: How would you describe your overall style of photography?
A: It takes a lot of experience to make your own style and I don’t think I reached the point where I have my own yet, but maybe someday…
Q: What advice do you have for emerging photographers?
A: The most important thing in my opinion, is to enjoy photography as much as you can, because everything else comes easily after that.
Q: What type of equipment do you use when shooting?
A: I use a Canon 350D, along with 3 lenses: the default kit lens, Canon 18-55mm, Canon 100mm (which has such a nice quality to it, from every aspect) and Sigma 10-20mm (cause I always thought wide angle images are so cool). I also got a Canon speedlight 430EX recently, but unfortunately didn’t have a chance to use it yet (and I still have to buy the trigger receiver thing to make it work off camera).
Q: What photographers are you influenced by?
A: I don’t think I have a certain photographer I am influenced by, I see so many beautiful images around, and I think I am a little bit influenced by all of them. I, like many others, like the work of Ansel Adams and I am fascinated by his work ethics: capturing one moment and then spending hundred of hours to make that moment perfect.
Q: How do you know when the image you’ve taken is a good one?
A: I know there are rules to be followed, but I think that when an image is pleasing to the eye, then you know you’ve got a good one. And I am talking about composition especially, because colour can be altered so easily these days.
Q: What’s your goal with your photography?.
A: It started as a beautiful passion and I believe it will be like this forever. Sure, it would be nice to go somewhere with it, but I’ve never been the kind of girl that dreams big, because no matter what, nobody can take the joy of photography away from me and that is all that counts. It’s all about enjoying it!
Maddy is a very kind soul and it has been a pleasure for me to get to know her and her work. As one of her commenter’s says, “…it’s like Christmas when one of your photos appears on my screen”. I think that says it all!
See more of Maddy’s images on her Flickr stream. Keep up the great work Maddy.
